Back Pack Buddies
Back Pack Buddies is a program for providing nutritious snacks to students in the county who do not have enough to eat on weekends. It is difficult for many of us to imagine, but 83% of the children attending Langston Chapel Elementary School live below the poverty level.Because of the great need to provide sufficient nutrition to these at-risk children, Pittman Park has volunteered to be responsible for supplying the food and packing the back packs each week for 75 Langston Chapel Elementary students. Just before the school Christmas holidays, we also pack a box of food for each of these families to help them out while school is not in session.
If you would like to help with this wonderful ministry, food donations can be dropped off at the church any time. There are collection boxes in the hallway just down from the office. Suggested food items just to cover one month include:
- 75 peanut butter
- 600 Vienna sausage, beans & franks and other protein items
- 300 fruit and pudding
- 300 raisins
- 75 saltines
